Hindu devotees walked across hot coals to celebrate the annual fire-walking festival of Theemithi on Saturday in Rameswaram, India. Those brave enough walked barefoot across a ceremonial pit of burning coals to receive a wish or blessing from the goddess Draupadi. The festival is also observed in Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore and other countries with many people of Tamil ethnicity.
